Determining effectiveness of the ALAViDA virtual rehab service
Alcohol was the third leading risk factor for death and disability globally in 2010. ALAViDA is a BC based digital health company tackling this challenge with their suite of services helping those suffering from problematic substance use and substance use disorders. To increase adoption and attract investment, ALAViDA needs to show that their treatment is effective. However, this validation would be much less meaningful if ALAViDA completed it themselves. ALAViDA needed an independent analysis of their treatment and engagement data collected from approximately 500 individuals who have participated in their programs. Digital Health Circle worked with SFU researchers to design and conduct an ethics-approved, independent analysis of de-identified data collected by ALAViDA. Main findings from this analysis confirmed the effectiveness of the ALAViDA treatment program at reducing problem alcohol consumption. ALAViDA was able to better understand their patient’s success and arm themselves with scientifically validated results to present to new patients and potential investors. They were also able to use insights suggested by Digital Health Circle to improve their data collection process and increase the value of their data in the future.
